Brief
History (continued)
In
the 1790's, industries in Manchester became some of the
first in the state to employ the advanced textile technologies
of the industrial revolution.
In
the 1830's, our very own Cheney family built a manufacturing
operation that quickly grew to become the largest silk
mill in the world.
in
1901, the Manchester's Businessmen's Association was formed
to provide support for local businesses. This association
evolved into today's Chamber
of Commerce.
By
the 1920's, Manchester was world reknowned as the site
of an utopian industrial community. Not only were
fine products produced here, living conditions were exemplary.
In
1946, Manchester re-confirmed its commitment to progressive
management by adopting a town manager form of government.
Since then our community has continued to grow, thanks
to a partnership of merchants, makers, movers and shakers.
We're proud of this heritage, and it's still in the making.
