Shoppes
at Buckland Hills
Through
a combination of accelerated zoning approvals and financial
incentives the Town worked with the Homart Development Company
to extend infrastructure and roads north of the interstate
in conjunction with the development of what is now known
as the Shoppes at Buckland Hills mall. This superregional
mall became the anchor for what is one of the largest concentrations
of retail and services in the northeast.
The
Shoppes at Buckland Hills mall is anchored by Filene's,
Sears, JC Penney, Dick's Sporting Goods and Barnes and Noble
as well as dozens of in-line retailers and several restaurants.
This 1.1 million sq.ft. center opened in March 1990 and
since that time another two million square feet of retail
have been built in Buckland Hills.
